• You will probably see that this web site is quite a simple one, with images, text and an easy-to-follow navigation system and some alternative navigation processes, such as hot-spots.  Not ideal from my point of view, but adequate to attact interest and gain clients.

 

• Getting a professional image from a web site is determined by several factors, which include the use of professional web authoring tools, but is also determined by the facilities offered by the host (the organisation who provide the platform where the web site is physically located).  You CAN host your own web site, but that means using hardware and a lot of software to provide a seam-free service and most peaple do not have those resources.

 

• We need to consider some of the features that can be provided for a web site, and understand that they may not be supported by the host.  The result will either be to accept these limitations or choose a host offering support for the features required.  I can help with host choice, but be aware that you are committed to a host by contract and may have to accept (as I have) that significant web developments may not be possible.

 

• Some examples; I like to use animated marquees, where words, text or images move across the page from one side to the other.  An interesting and attractive feature which is not supported by this host.  I also like to use roll-over images, where an image (or another feature) changes when you use the mouse pointer to roll over the feature.  It may change the image for another, or even expand the original image temporarily.  Again a feature not supported by this host.

 

• More interesting and interactive navigation features are, once more, not supported by this host and I will need to wait either until the host provides updated feature support or until I am able to migrate (with a significantly changed web site) to another host - probably for more money!!

 

• When designing and developing web sites, I use professional web authoring tools, such as DreamWeaver or Serif.  They are both extremely good and provide a superb range of support functions, such as image manipulation and video editing as well as enhanced and interactive navigation and form generators and can provide superb web site safety features designed to protect your web site from hackers and automatic 'spam' generators when your on-line forms are being completed.
